Artist Name Ideas And Final Name Choice

Above is a section of names we thought would be suitable for our artist. After coming up with 1 that each person from the group  preferred we went ahead a did a survey to see which out of the 3 received the majority vote.
The outcome is shown below and the sample size was 15, this was useful as we gained a better insight into what your audience would prefer and we wanted a name that was realistic and typical of a pop artist. Therefore as a result of the survey we have chosen Inka.

Pop Genre Artist Name Research

For our music video we wanted to alter the artist name, therefore I did some research into artists from our genre in order to help decide a suitable name that will represent the sound of the artist and style of genre.Below is a list of artists from our genre. I found that the majority either had their full name or took on a stage name that was one word e.g Beyonce. For our artist name, i think we will probably take on a stage name that is also one word rather than a full name,this is because I think it adds a uniqueness and visually there is a focus on the single lexis, adding more depth to the name.

Domestic Violence Music Video Research

Having done some research on real-life examples that incorporate a narrative that is focused on domestic violence. Some of the videos that I found were..

Hozier- Cherry Wine

The mis-en-scene consisted of low-key lighting which aided in creating a dark and sombre atmosphere,also it could be interpreted as a method of foreshadowing.In addition to this the props involved a mirror,which often is symbolic of self-knowledge and reflection.

In terms of editing,I found the slow pace of the shots very effective as they exaggerate the narrative and as an audience make you continue watching.
The cinematography involved many close-up-shots of the female's hands and face as well as the inclusion of depth-of-field as a method to make the focus on the girl,particularly at 3.36 when she removes her make-up.

Atmosphere-The Last to Say
The editing had a very big impact on the message of the song as the actors faded as they grew up which juxtaposed with the consistent mis-en-scene  of the kitchen to illustrate that the abuse repeats itself in a cycle.
Likewise the music video consists of only one type of shot,which is a long shot as we see everything in the frame and feel a sense of sympathy.
The artist is present within each shot and is never acknowledged which is similar to music video.
The lighting transitions from subtle low-key lighting to extreme low-key lighting as the song continues again illustrating the darkness and melancholy narrative.

Domestic Violence USP

Now that we have begun to storyboard the music video.We decided that the central USP/message for our product will be about domestic violence and we will implement common stereotypes in our video to position the audience into initially assuming that the female actor is being domestically abused but as we come to the end of the video,it is revealed that the male actor is actually in fact the victim in the narrative.
The underlying message is to bring further awareness that men can be victims of abuse too.I think this is achieved by the ambiguity around the music video as we want to include shots that are suggestive of the male character being innocent but without making it completely obvious from the very beginning. By having a narrative based around this USP I think is aids in being more relatable to our intended target audience as it is something that occurs within their age group rather being very distant to their interests.

Our Actors

For our music video we chose to have 3 central characters. We don’t clearly specify if she is the one who is abusive, to add to the unconventionality of it for the audience.

Yasmin-the girlfriend:
Ambiguous as to whether she is the victim at the very beginning.

Gbeke- the boyfriend:
Essentially he is in an unhealthy relationship and is the domestic abuse victim. By placing a male in this inferior position we introduce subversion of gender stereotypes.

Morgan-the singer:
Present in each location, but the couple do not acknowledge them. She becomes an observer in there relationship. Singer will stand out to establish a difference in terms of appearance.

Costume and Props For Music Video

As part of our mis-en-scene for our music video, we had to consider the outfits that our actors would be wearing as it is contributes in making the product more believable in terms of the narrative.

For the characters playing the couple we went for a more casual look which involved..

The Girlfriend(Yasmin):
-Blue jeans
-Red checkered Top
-trainers

The Boyfriend(Gbeke):
-black jeans
-black jacket
-khaki top
-trainers

The Singer(Morgan):

-Red hoody
-Black jeans
-Trainers
- Makeup

The props that we needed were a picture of the couple to show the girlfriend reminiscing and makeup for the bruises on the male actor that suggest domestic violence.

Locations For Music Video

For our music video we will have 3 main locations which will be Jana’s house,Hilly Fields Park and a general shopping store like B&Q .
In addition to this we will also have filler shots on random streets of our characters walking and capturing their emotions.

Hilly Fields Park-Map and Bandstand

B&Q
The main reason as to why we have such a variety of locations for our shots is because we want the audience to still be engaged as change of scene can prevent the music video from being repetitive and predictable.Another aspect that will be an advantage is that we will be able to have more creativity with our mis-en-scene in aspects such as shots.
